I'm not sure how many of you can relate to this but...I have battled with my weight since I was a teenager.
I reached the height of 5' 4” by the time I was 12-years-old, while my friends were still growing and developing, so I felt like a giant. I was a size 6, when most of my friends were still a size 2, I felt like a hippo. When I tell you, I wish I could go back knowing what I know now, I don't even need to finish that sentence.
Fast forward to my forties. I still battle with this “not-quite-right” feeling.
In 2018, I stumbled upon a small, intimate gym that offered something called The Bikini Challenge. I was terrified and ran from the concept, but after several people showed me their results, I thought...what do I have to lose? In January of 2018, I started at a weight of 184 pounds. I’m proud to say that I embarked on this 6-month journey and later weighed in at 152 pounds. I put on a bikini for the first time in 15 years. My confidence was through the roof! You couldn’t tell me anything, but unfortunately, I didn't learn the maintenance program and as the next two years ticked by, the weight crept back on.
I did some great things; however, I also did some extreme things to get that weight off. So...here we are. It’s 2020 and we’re in the middle of a pandemic, with people talking about their COVID “19” or their “pandemic 15” and don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not exempt, I just decided to invest in myself and in April, of this year, I purchased a Peloton bike. It wasn’t delivered until July, so can you imagine my anticipation? When it finally arrived, I found a whole new tribe of women who are all having their own battles--be it weight, life and no matter what, all of these things I could relate to. I keep tapping into this network that encourages me on those days when I think,oh I'm so ashamed that I've gained these 20 pounds back! These ladies let me know that every day I wake up there's another opportunity to do better.
So, if you are on the fence about getting started on a new journey and you've been kicking yourself as I have so many times, I want you to stop. I want you to tell yourself every day you wake up is another day to make a different decision.
I invite you to meet me on the Peloton bike leader board! My leader board name isRhonda681and here at Natural Radiant Life we have our own hashtag. Use#beradiant.
